Gluten Free Christmas Chocolates and Treats 2025
Get ready to indulge in the festive spirit with a delightful collection of gluten-free Christmas chocolates and treats that are as delicious as they are merry! Includes all kinds of gluten free chocolates, lollies and sweets, baked goods and advent calendars!

Well hello. It seems like we were only just talking about Easter treats, and now here we are… tumbling into Christmas 2025!
Food is a huge part of the festive season, and when you have Coeliac disease, gluten sensitivity, allergies or other dietary requirements, it can also cause a lot of extra worry about what you can and can’t eat.
I’ve put together this list of gluten free Christmas chocolates and treats that will satisfy any craving for a little bit of festive sweetness, to help you navigate the holiday season a little more easily.
You can send it to your friends and family if they’re not quite sure what to get you, or bookmark it for your own shopping trips.
The list is broken down into gluten free Christmas chocolates, lollies and sweets, baked goods and advent calendars. And I’ve included the common places where you can buy them in New Zealand.
Be sure to let me know in the comments if I’ve missed your Christmas favourites!
Gluten Free Christmas Treat Guide
There are two kinds of gluten free Christmas treats in this list β the first are those that are labelled gluten free, which means they meet the gluten free labelling regulations in New Zealand and Australia.
The second are those that are gluten free by ingredient, meaning they are not made with any gluten-containing ingredients, but have not been tested for gluten and may be made on equipment that also handles gluten.
Reading Ingredient Labels
Make sure you check the packet ingredients to ensure that what you’re buying is gluten free, don’t just take the word of someone on the internet (even if it is me, I’m still human). I’ve added the info available to me on the packets of the products I purchased and on the brand’s websites, but sometimes labelling and ingredients change, so always make sure that what you’re buying is safe.
When checking labels for gluten, remember the acronym BROW – barley, rye, oats and wheat. Labels must clearly state if they contain these ingredients.
Some products may state βmay contain glutenβ or “may contain traces” of gluten, due to being made on the same equipment as products that do contain gluten. This statement doesnβt make them any more or less safe than those without that label, as it is a completely voluntary label that the manufacturer can choose to include (or not).
Many Coeliacs (including my Dad) comfortably eat βmay containβ products, however, always assess your own (or the person youβre buying forβs) risk appetite for products made on shared equipment.
Note: In New Zealand, glucose syrup from wheat is considered by Coeliac NZ to be so highly processed that it is gluten free. However, Coeliac Australia notes that there is a small chance some highly sensitive Coeliacs may still react to it and that it is an individual’s choice whether to consume it.
Glucose syrup from wheat is not safe for those with a wheat allergy.
KEY
β β = Gluten free (includes those with the Crossed Grain logo, and those labelled gluten free).
β = Gluten free by ingredient (no gluten-containing ingredients, with or without a “may contain” gluten statement).
π = Labelled suitable for certain allergies or dietary requirements, or other notable points.
βΌοΈ = Other allergen warnings and may contain statements from the packaging.
Gluten Free Christmas Chocolate
Rainbow Confectionery

The Christmas Santas (pack of 10) are strawberry marshmallow coated with milk chocolate, and the Christmas Treats (pack of 15) contains various shapes (Santas, trees and what I think is a snowman?) in three flavours – vanilla, strawberry and honeycomb. All individually wrapped, so handy for stockings. Available from supermarkets and The Warehouse.

NOMO

NOMO means “no more missing out” and these are another great option for those with multiple foods to avoid. The Mini Bars include four flavours – chocolate, caramel, mint, orange and the little reindeer have a cookie dough flavoured centre. They also have an advent calendar that you can see below. Available from supermarkets and The Warehouse, and I found the reindeer at Chemist Warehouse, as well.
β

π Egg free
π Nut free
βΌοΈ Does not contain soy ingredients, but according to their website is processed on equipment that also handles soy.
Moo Free

This is one of the few brands with products that are also soy-free. While a little pricier, these are a great option for people with multiple allergies or dietary requirements. The Selection Box contains four items – a Bunnycomb bar, a Santa bar, a Jingle Chums bar and a packet of Choccy buttons. The Caramel Crimbo Prezzies are little caramel-filled choccy treats. They also have other Christmas-themed items, including an Advent calendar, which you can see below. I bought these from Simply Organics, but they’re also available from other places online.

Sweet William

A great option for those with multiple food allergies, as they’re made in a dedicated GF/DF/NF facility. The mylk chocolate Santas have 12 individually packaged chocolate Santas in the pack, the chocolate assortment has three flavours – raspberry sherbet, dark choc and caramel, and the caramel-flavoured block is made in a cute mould with Santa, a reindeer and a Christmas tree. Available from organics/health food shops and online from places like The Vegan Shop.

Queen Anne

I’m a big fan of Queen Anne products, and these are no exception. The Marshmallow Bells are a very festive-looking treat, and the salted caramels are available year-round but are a very nice Christmas present. Both of these come in milk or dark chocolate varieties, and they have quite a range of other chocolates, all of which are gluten free π Available from supermarkets and online.
β
β
Gluten free
βΌοΈ Contains milk and soy
βΌοΈ May contain sulphites, egg and walnuts
Bennetts

A lovely gift for gluten free adults, these Bennetts chocolates are both packaged in really nice-quality boxes. The Jolly Bon Bons are filled with a Congac filling, and the peppermint sticks are made with dark chocolate. I bought these from Gourmet Trader in Tauranga, but they should be available from other nice food stores, and they can also be purchased online from Bennetts (they have some other lovely Christmas products, too).
β
β
Gluten Free
βΌοΈ Both contain soy
βΌοΈ BonBons contain alcohol, almond and milk
βΌοΈ Both made in a facility that handles peanuts, tree nuts, milk and egg
KitKat

While most KitKat products are not gluten free because they contain wafer pieces, these Santas contain rice crisps instead. The bag of mini Santas has a European crossed grain logo on it; however, that isn’t automatically valid in NZ as our standards are different. However, these can both be considered gluten free by ingredient.
Because the individual Easter bunny versions of these were not gluten free this year, and because these products seem to have different versions manufactured in different countries, I recommend double-checking the packets before buying just to make sure.

Kinder

These cute little characters are made with that delicious Kinder chocolate, which is gluten free by ingredient. There are also some multipacks of smaller figures, too. Note: these ones are not Kinder Surprises, so they don’t contain a toy inside; however, there are also some Christmas Kinder Surprises available. Available from supermarkets and The Warehouse.
β
Gluten free by ingredient
βΌοΈ Contains milk and soy
Cadbury

These Cadbury products are all gluten free by ingredient, but not all Cadbury products are, so just have a read of the ingredients to check. Some of the Cadbury Roses and Cadbury Favourites flavours contain gluten, so I recommend avoiding both of those if you’re looking for a gift for someone gluten-free.
β
Many products are gluten free by ingredient
βΌοΈ All contain milk and soy, and some contain nuts
βΌοΈ There are different “may contain” statements for each product. These include gluten, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts.

I have bought the Bailey’s chocolate truffles and chocolate covered caramels several times for my Mum, knowing that she’ll share them with me π The tube only seems to be available from Mighty Ape this year, but the caramels are available from supermarkets and The Warehouse.

While unfortunately this year’s Whittaker’s Christmas brandy snap block contains gluten, their Chocolate Pods that are available year-round are gluten free by ingredient. They now come with four different flavours in a pack, and there is a box of 16 or a package of 10. Available from supermarkets and pretty much anywhere that sells Whittaker’s chocolate.
β

Reese’s

These are regular Reese’s miniature cups repackaged for Christmas, but the packaging is cute so I give it a pass. I’m pretty sure I also saw these in a white chocolate version in the supermarket, but I can’t find them online so don’t quote me on it. Available from Woolworths, and probably other supermarkets too.
β
Gluten free by ingredient
βΌοΈ Contains milk, peanuts and soy
Hershey’s Kisses

Hershey’s Kisses are an old favourite, and these are regular Kisses in Christmas coloured wrappers. You can take them out of the bag and put them in a cute jar or cellophane bag with a nice ribbon for an easy yet cute present. Available from New World.
β
Gluten free by ingredient
βΌοΈ Contains milk and soy
Potter Brothers

These Potter Brothers milk chocolate marshmallow Christmas stockings come in three flavours. These would make a great (and very punny) stocking stuffer. Available from supermarkets.
β
Gluten free by ingredient
βΌοΈ Contains milk and soy
βΌοΈ May contain traces of peanuts, wheat, gluten and tree nuts.
Lindt

I tossed up whether to include these, because Coeliacs need to note that the majority of Lindt chocolates are not gluten free because they contain barley malt flavouring. However, some of their white chocolate flavours are gluten free by ingredient, including these strawberries and cream truffles and (surprisingly enough) cheesecake truffles. Always double-check the packet, as some of the assortment flavours do contain barley. Available from supermarkets and The Warehouse.
β

βΌοΈ May contain peanuts and tree nuts
Gluten Free Christmas Lollies and Sweets

Ma Baker Christmas Tree Mallows
Little pink, white and green tree-shaped marshmallows. I really love Ma Baker marshmallows, they’re lovely and soft with a light flavour. These would be cute pressed into the top of some homemade rocky road to give as gifts. Available from supermarkets.

Ok it’s not a lolly, but it is delicious so I’m adding it anyway. This Candy Cane popcorn from Dr Bugs would make a festively red addition to a grazing platter. They also have a gingerbread flavour. These flavours are currently only available in their Christmas box, but if you’re looking for some festive snacks, this is a great option, and they are all gluten free. Available on the Dr Bugs website.

β
β

Pams Fruit Mince Tarts

Lovely little fruit mince tarts. Very traditional taste, as with most fruit mince pies, I feel like they could have had a little more fruit mince in them, but overall, they’re very nice. Available from New World and PAK’nSAVE.
I’m 99.9% sure that these are the same as the JonJon fruit mince bites. The ingredients and nutrition panel are virtually identical. So if you have a choice between the two, I’d go with whichever is at the cheapest price.

Free From Gluten Fruit Mince Pies

Note: At the time of updating, I haven’t seen these in stores yet, but I’m leaving them here since they have the rest of this range in store, and I assume these are coming. If I don’t see them in a few weeks, I’ll remove them from the list.
These mince pies tick a few boxes because they’re also dairy-free and vegan. They’re not quite my cup of tea because I don’t like mixed peel, but my parents enjoyed them. Available from Woolworths and possibly Fresh Choice.

Other Fruit Mince Tarts
At the time of updating this post, I haven’t seen any other fruit mince pies/tarts available, but I will update when I do. I’m keeping an eye out for the Bakeworks Home St fruit mince tarts.
Don’t forget, if you can’t find any in the shops or just want to make your own, I have an easy and delicious gluten free fruit mince pie recipe on my other website.
Walker’s Shortbread

Walkers are pretty famous for their classic shortbread, and their gluten free shortbreads are very nice, too. So far this year, I have only seen the plain version and not the chocolate chip or lemon and ginger versions that were available last year, but I will keep an eye out and update this if I see them. Available from Woolworths.

JonJon Gluten Free Brandy Snaps

Now, I am a big fan of making homemade gluten free brandy snaps, because I love how much lighter and crunchier they are, but if you’re in a hurry or just don’t want to faff about making them yourself, then these JonJon ones are great. There are 8 in a pack. Available from supermarkets.

Free From Gluten Cookies

If you’re not in the mood to bake your own gluten free gingerbread cookies, then these ones are perfect to eat as-is, or you could decorate them yourself. This year, they also have lemon shortbread trees. They’re very delicate (you can see a cracked one in the picture π¬), so if you’re gifting them, you might want to make sure you check the ones you’re buying aren’t cracked already, and be careful with them in the trolley. 4 biscuits in each packet. Available from Woolworths and Fresh Choice.

Gluten Free Advent Calendars
A few of the gluten free advent calendars that are available in New Zealand.
The Moo Free, NOMO and Ma Baker are the only labelled gluten free advent calendars I’ve found this year, but there are a lot of gluten free by ingredient ones around.
Also, keep in mind that there are lots of non-food advent calendars around, and you can also buy reusable calendars that you can fill yourself, with gluten free treats of your choice, or little non-food gifts.

The Trolli fruity gummi advent calendar contains twenty-four flavoured jelly shapes. Products to Avoid
Weβve talked about some safe options, so letβs quickly cover a few that arenβt safe, particularly ones that are common traps that people fall into.
β Lindt β Most of Lindtβs milk and dark chocolate products contain barley malt syrup, which isnβt safe for Coeliacs.
β Malteser β All Malteser products contain barley malt (of course, theyβre Maltesers).
β Ferrero Rocher β Most Ferrero products are not gluten free as they contain wafer pieces that contain gluten.
β KitKat – While the Santas in this list are gluten free by ingredient because they use rice crisps, most KitKat products use a gluten-containing wafer.
βΌοΈ Be careful with boxes of chocolates and always check the ingredients. Sometimes one or more flavours might contain barley or biscuit pieces. They have to tell you if there are allergens present, but they don’t always list the ingredients separately for each flavour, and one that you think looks like it might be safe may not be.
Will you be trying some of the treats on the list this year? Have I missed your family’s favourite gluten free Christmas chocolates or treats? Let me know in the comments below π
